【New Delhi】A total of 107 constituencies spanning nine states and two Union territories went to the polls on April 30. An estimated 50 per cent of the 14.4 crore electorate exercised their franchise in the third phase of Lok Sabha polls. There were incidents of naxal violence in West Bengal, group clashes, police firing, poll boycott in States such as Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Bihar. However there was no loss of life in any poll-related violence.

◆明日、明明後日に新内閣発足

【ニューデリー】Manmohan Singh首相は１７日午後、全閣僚の辞表をとりまとめ、Pratibha Patil大統領に内閣の総辞職届けを提出した。これに伴い新内閣は５月２０日か２２日に発足するものと見られる。総理府筋によると、現政権も５年前の５月２２日に就任式を催している。５月２１日は故ラジブ・ガンディー首相が暗殺された日に当たるため、この日に就任式が催される可能性は少ないと言う。
