◆Amethi electorate lauded for showering love on Rahul, Priyanka
【LUCKNOW】Campaigning for Rahul Gandhi in Amethi, Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday struck an emotional chord with the electorate, even as she slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party for launching a misinformation campaign against her party. She lauded the people for working in tandem with the 'Gandhi family'.
While Congress campaign managers are hopeful that Mr. Gandhi would win, it is the victory margin that would matter, considering that Amethi is said to be the Gandhi family's pocket borough. Mr. Gandhi first won from Amethi in the 2004 Lok Sabha polls. In 2009, he polled a record 4,64,195 votes and his victory margin was 3,31,910 votes.
○Priyanka to Vadra's rescue
【LUCKNOW】Speaking out for the first time in defence of her husband Robert Vadra, who is facing allegations of illegal land deals, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, daughter of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, said the Opposition was trying to malign his image with "false charges."
Ms. Vadra on Tuesday(22-04) said in an emotional address during a road show in Rae Bareli, where she is campaigning for her mother. She said her husband Robert Vadra was being targeted for political reasons and asserted "My family is being humiliated. A lot of harsh things are being said about my husband. (But) The more they attack my family, the stronger we will emerge,"
I feel pained. I feel pained, not for myself, not because somebody is ridiculing and the truth is not being told, not because everyday I tell my children that the truth will prevail. I feel pained at the kind of politics that has come to the fore in these elections,"she told a gathering.
○Cong defends Vadra against BJP fire
【New Delhi】The Congress on Tuesday closed ranks to defend Robert Vadra, husband of Priyanka Gandhi, who has been the target of the BJP and its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi over his controversial land deals in Rajasthan and Haryana.
○At RLD's Mathura rally, people snub Rahul
【Mathura】In the Ramlila Grounds here on Tuesday afternoon, a sizeable crowd came to listen to Mathura's sitting MP and Rashtriya Lok Dal's Lok Sabha candidate Jayant Chaudhary and his father Ajit Singh.
There is a family more famous than the Gandhis: that of Chaudhary Charan Singh's. Interestingly, as soon as Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi took the dais and started speaking, several in the crowd made their way to the exits.
○UPA will hold together even if NDA forms govt, says Sharad Pawar
【Mumbai】Voicing confidence about UPA III returning to power after Lok Sabha elections, NCP chief Sharad Pawar has said it will hold together even in defeat and Congress will revive after the setback.
"Firstly, I don't think UPA III will not be there after the polls, not on Congress' strength alone but with support from other parties. UPA will hold together 100% even if NDA forms the government," Pawar, Union Minister of Agriculture, told PTI in an interview.
