◆In Ayodhya, Modi chants Ram's name
【New Delhi】In a move seen as his last-ditch effort to polarise religious opinion in his party's favour, Narendra Modi, the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP's) prime ministerial candidate, on Monday spoke about reclaiming BJP's ‘Ram' legacy.
He was addressing a public meeting with the god's picture in the backdrop in Uttar Pradesh's Faizabad district. Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Rama, is a tehsil of the district.
“I will fight against corruption all my life, I promise you from the land of Lord Ram,” Mr. Modi said. The BJP leader said even Mahatma Gandhi invoked the name of Ram. “When Gandhiji was asked about his idea of an ideal nation, he said there should be Ram Rajya. If you want to imagine an ideal State, then there must be Ram Rajya.”
○Election Commission seeks reports on Modi's rally in Faizabad
【Lucknow】Within hours of Narendra Modi's address to a rally in Faizabad, the Election Commission sought a report from the district authorities about his speech and the stage backdrop.
"I have sought a report on Modi's speech and backdrop of the stage at the rally from District Magistrate, Faizabad," Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Umesh Sinha told PTI.
○Arrest Shah, ban him from UP, demand BJP rivals
【New Delhi】Bharatiya Janata Party's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's close aide, Amit Shah's, comment that Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh was a “base of terrorists” triggered demands by BJP's rivals for his arrest and a ban by the Election Commission (EC) on his entry into the northern state for campaigning.
○Omar warns Modi against ‘intimidating Kashmiri students'
【Noida/Srinagar】Three Kashmiri students from a private university in Greater Noida have alleged that fellow students misbehaved with them and forced them to shout anti-Pakistan slogans, drawing a sharp reaction from the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister who said UP authorities should admit their ''inability'' or ''unwillingness'' to protect them.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday warned the BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi against what he called intimidating the Kashmiri students at different universities.
