【Chennai】The United States and the United Nations have been sharp in their condemnation of the rape and hanging of two girls in Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh.
While the U.S. State Department said it was “horrified” by the crimes, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon criticised the statements of Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh in an oblique reference, saying: “We say no to the dismissive, destructive attitude of ‘boys will be boys.’”
Mr. Ban, who made his comments in New York at the launch of a video campaign against sexual violence, said he “was especially appalled by the brutal rape and gruesome murder of two teenaged women in India.”

【LUCKNOW】Facing flak from all quarters for the rape and murder of two girls in Badaun, Samajwadi Party leaders gave bizarre statements on Wednesday and blamed the media for targeting the Uttar Pradesh government.
SP general secretary Ramgopal Yadav said the spurt in such incidents was a result of “vulgarity and violence shown on television channels.”
He echoed Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's view that U.P. was being targeted deliberately when such incidents were taking place in other States too. He said,“In many places, when the relationship between girls and boys come out in open, it is termed as rape. In many places, girls and boys are ready (to marry) but honour killings take place. The most saddening and serious thing is that such incidents are not stopping. These incidents happen in other places also but are not highlighted.”

【Pune】A 28-year-old Muslim software professional died of injuries after members of the radical right-wing outfit Hindu Rashtra Sena attacked him here on Monday night.
The Pune police said Shaikh Mohasin Sadiq from Solapur was bludgeoned to death when he was on his way home after evening prayers. The incident is a fallout of communal tensions in the city after morphed derogatory photos of Maratha king Shivaji and Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray were posted on Facebook.
A total of 13 persons have been arrested by police in connection with the murder in Bankar Colony in Hadapsa area with six more people being arrested today.
