◆India reacts strongly to Sharif's speech at UN
 【New York/New Delhi】Strongly reacting to Pakistan Prime Minister's remarks at the UN, India on the 21st September described them as non-factual and full of "threat bluster" and said glorification of Hizbul commander Burhan Wani by him at the world forum is an act of "self-incrimination" by Pakistan. "We just heard a speech full of threat bluster and rising immaturity and complete disregard of facts," Minister of State for External Affairs M J Akbar said at a press conference at the India's permanent mission here after Sharif's address to the UN General Assembly. In its sharpest attack on Pakistan, India today called it a "terrorist state" which carries out "war crimes" by using terrorism as an "instrument of state policy." India also strongly rejected Sharif's call for "a serious and sustained" bilateral dialogue "without any conditions", saying that Pakistan, which "seems to be run by a war machine rather than a government", wants talks with a "gun in its hand". ○India seeks Chinese support to mount pressure on Pakistan  【New Delhi】India is reaching out to China in the wake of the Uri attack in an attempt to get it to mount pressure on Pakistan to desist from sponsoring terrorism or allowing its territory to be used for cross-border terrorism. The Modi government reached out to China both at the multilateral forum and bilaterally after the Uri attacks, sources said. "India's approach is not to hit out at Beijing for its pro-Pakistan leanings but rather to engage it to push India's case," said one of the persons, who did not wish to be identified. There are further engagements with China in the offing, with President Xi Jinping scheduled to travel to Goa for BRICS Summit and bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Modi on October 15-16. ○China caught in a corridor of uncertainty  【New Delhi】China’s comments after the Uri attack amount to Beijing’s admission of deep strategic interest in the Kashmir region, experts and diplomats told The Hindu. Describing the attack as “shocking”, China’s Foreign Ministry expressed “sympathy” for the victims and asked for “relevant parties” to create a favourable environment which will secure CPEC (China Pakistan Economic Corridor) which passes through Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). “The goal of the CPEC is to serve the region by facilitating better development of regional countries. Naturally, relevant parties are required to make concerted efforts to ensure a safe, sound and favourable environment for the CPEC. As I said earlier we have been following the tension in this region, including in Kashmir recently.
