【Bhubaneswar】The Anil Agarwal promoted Vedanta Aluminium (VAL) has already invested about Rs 25,000 crore($5.1b) in a one million tonne alumina refinery at Kalahandi district and a 0.5 million tonne aluminium smelter and 1215 Mw captive power plant (CPP) at Jharsuguda district, both in Orissa and intends to make additional Rs 35,000 crore($7.2b) investment to scale up the operation of these two projects over next four years.
◆Steel imports surge in January due to the high demand
【New Delhi】India's finished steel imports surged 60% to 5.1 lakh tonnes in January from 3.2 lakh tonnes in December, despite the import tax levy of 5%. However the imports slipped 34% in January this year from 7.7 lakh tonnes in the same month a year ago.
【New Delhi】Spurred by improved performances and demand from the automobile and construction sectors, consumption of steel increased by 5.7 per cent to 4.45 million tonnes in February indicating a revival in demand.
